What's Good
Apache-2.0 (appsmithorg/appsmith), release v2.5.0 (2026-10-09), with commits this week. Connects to 25+ databases and any REST or GraphQL API. Self-host it with Docker or Kubernetes, or use Appsmith Cloud. Git sync for versioning apps. ★~41.1k.
The Catch
Some features, such as advanced SSO and granular access control, sit in paid plans. Apps live inside the platform, not as plain code you can export. The self-hosted image is heavy.
Verdict
A mature open-source Retool alternative.
