What's Good
Engine source lives upstream in Apache-2.0 moby/moby (docker/docker-ce is an archive — do not point there). Containers are the universal deployment unit. Dockerfile syntax is approachable. Docker Compose handles multi-container development. The ecosystem is massive.
The Catch
Resource overhead compared to native. Security requires attention. Desktop licensing changes affected teams. Image size management is ongoing work.
Verdict
Containers are table stakes; Docker is how most start.
