What's Good
SQLite simplicity with global distribution. Embedded replicas mean reads are local. Per Turso's own README, new projects should start on Turso Database (MIT, tursodatabase/turso — the in-process Rust rewrite of SQLite); the libSQL fork is its own gem. libSQL adds features SQLite lacks. The latency benefits are real for edge-deployed applications.
The Catch
SQLite limitations still apply—no concurrent writes from different regions. The embedded replica model has a learning curve. Less battle-tested than Postgres.
Verdict
SQLite for the edge era, with surprising capabilities.
