What's Good
Write backend logic in TypeScript, get real-time sync to the client automatically. No REST endpoints to define, no WebSocket plumbing to maintain. Queries are reactive—data changes, UI updates. The developer experience is genuinely different from traditional backends. Strong typing end-to-end.
The Catch
Not Postgres. Convex has its own data model and query language. Migration from existing databases requires rethinking your data layer. Chef (their AI feature) was deprecated. Vendor dependency is real.
Verdict
Reactive backend that feels like the future. Not Postgres.
