What's Good
MPL-2.0. Self-host forever with full editor features. Cloud Professional is $0 (team/storage caps: ~8 members, ~10GB, short version history). CSS-aware layouts, components, prototyping, multiplayer. Real design systems lane — not a sticky-note board.
The Catch
Only serious OSS Figma-class design; not Excalidraw whiteboards. Cloud Unlimited from ~$7/editor (capped ~$175/mo). Self-host means you own Docker/backups/upgrades. Ecosystem/plugins thinner than Figma marketplace.
Verdict
MPL-2.0 design suite. Self-host free; Cloud Pro $0 then Unlimited ~$7/editor.
