What's Good

MIT (DeusData/codebase-memory-mcp). Pure-C static binary for macOS/Linux/Windows: tree-sitter across 162 languages, Hybrid LSP for common stacks, 17 MCP tools, optional 3D graph UI on localhost. No in-server LLM key and no hosted service — index stays on the machine. Research preprint claims large token/tool-call cuts vs naive exploration.

The Catch

Vs CodeGraph, Serena, and Supermemory: this is a persistent local code-graph MCP from a static binary, not an AST/MCP peer alone, an LSP-symbol MCP alone, or a general memory API. Default install is curl|bash; Microsoft Defender has false-positived release binaries (Wacatac-family); star velocity is extreme (~45k, repo created 2026-02) — verify checksums/VirusTotal links before trusting the pipeline.

Verdict

MIT local code-graph MCP when agents need structural queries without a server-side model key; audit the install path and treat the ★ spike as a signal, not proof.
