Nobody can answer what is on this box
Geiger inventory itch: agents cannot reliably answer what tools, files, and processes are on the machine they run on. Inventory is a control-plane gap.
The Geiger itch is not “find one more tool.” It is the more basic operator question: what is actually on this box? Which binaries are installed, which files are present, which processes are alive, which ports are listening, and which agent or human put them there? An agent can often inspect one directory or run one command, but that is not the same as a trustworthy inventory of its execution surface.
That is an operator note, not a new gem. Inventory needs provenance, scope, freshness, and a way to distinguish “not found” from “not checked.” Without those, an agent can confidently report a partial view while the control plane quietly carries old processes, forgotten credentials, stale worktrees, or tools installed by another session. The missing primitive is an accountable machine inventory, not another dashboard-shaped card.
