## The Hook

zot is a container registry in one binary, built strictly on the OCI Distribution Spec, with optional extensions for search, a web UI, sync/mirroring and scanning.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (project-zot/zot), release v2.1.22 (2026-10-06), commit on 2026-10-20. ★~2.9k (~8 a week), developed since 2019. Useful when you want a private registry or pull-through mirror without running a database and a fleet of services; it stores to local disk or S3.

## The Catch

A much smaller community than Harbor, and team features such as per-project RBAC and replication policies are thinner. Because it follows the OCI spec closely, test older Docker-format tooling against it before migrating.

## Verdict

The lightweight registry to pick when Harbor is too much.
