## The Hook

ZCode is Z.ai’s open coding workspace: Electron desktop, browser workbench, and a `zcode` Agent CLI/runtime in one monorepo.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (zai-org/ZCode). Desktop, web, and CLI share the agent runtime; Node 24 + pnpm via mise.toml; remote SSH/WSL paths documented. Product site at zcode.z.ai. Self-host the OSS clients and agent rather than only a hosted chat box.

## The Catch

Vs Claude Code, Pi, and OpenCode: ZCode is Z.ai’s full workspace stack, not Anthropic’s product CLI, Earendil’s harness, or a pure terminal OSS agent. Bootstrap is heavy (pinned Node/pnpm, desktop/runtime assets); some OAuth/product routes still point at Z.ai services. Chinese/English docs mix — English README.en.md is the clearer entry.

## Verdict

Apache coding workspace when you want desktop+web+CLI from one OSS tree and can accept Z.ai product edges.
