## The Hook

Versity S3 Gateway turns a local or network file system into an S3-compatible object store with one command, or proxies S3 requests to other S3 storage.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (versity/versitygw), release v1.9.0 (2026-10-13). Single Go binary for Linux, macOS, BSD and Windows on amd64/arm64. The posix backend keeps files reachable over both POSIX and S3, there is an optional WebGUI, static website hosting from buckets, and S3 over RDMA for HPC workloads. Handy as a lightweight S3 endpoint for tests, apps and backups. ★~3k.

## The Catch

It is a translation layer, not a distributed object store: durability and scaling come from the file system underneath. S3 API coverage is broad but not identical to AWS, so test the calls your SDK uses. Smaller community than MinIO or Garage.

## Verdict

The easiest way to put an S3 API on top of existing storage.
