## The Hook

Umami is privacy-first web analytics you can self-host forever — or start on Cloud Hobby at $0.

## What's Good

MIT. Cookieless script, clean dashboard, custom events. Self-host on Postgres/MySQL with no feature gate. Cloud Hobby is a real free tier (100K events/mo, 1 site, 6-month retention per umami.is/pricing).

## The Catch

Not PostHog/GA depth — no session replay/heatmaps on Hobby/self-host the way Cloud Business sells them. Self-host means you own updates, backups, and a growing DB. Vs Plausible (paid SaaS-first) and PostHog.

## Verdict

MIT analytics. Free forever self-host; Cloud Hobby if you want $0 managed for a single site.
