## The Hook

TypeORM is a TypeScript and JavaScript ORM that runs in Node.js, browsers, React Native, Expo and Electron, supporting both Active Record and Data Mapper patterns.

## What's Good

MIT (typeorm/typeorm), release 1.1.2 (2026-10-08), around since 2016. It supports more databases than most JS ORMs: Postgres, MySQL/MariaDB, SQLite, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, SAP HANA and Google Spanner. Decorator-based entities, relations with eager and lazy loading, migrations, a query builder and transactions. Influenced by Hibernate, Doctrine and Entity Framework. ★~36.7k.

## The Catch

Decorators and reflection metadata feel heavy next to schema-first tools like Drizzle or Prisma, and type safety for complex queries is weaker. Maintenance went through quiet years before the 1.x releases, so some old issues linger. Lazy relations and migrations need discipline.

## Verdict

Still a solid pick for NestJS-style apps — newer projects often prefer Drizzle.
