## The Hook

Topcoat is the Tokio team’s batteries-included full-stack Rust web framework — router, views, sessions, assets, and a Tailwind-inspired UI kit without bolting five crates together yourself.

## What's Good

MIT (tokio-rs/topcoat). `cargo add topcoat` / crates.io; CLI via `topcoat` / `cargo topcoat` for dev server, `fmt`, and UI component copy-in. Modular features (router, runtime, serve, session, view, discovery). Server-rendered interactivity without a separate WASM frontend build. ★5,756.

## The Catch

Vs Axum / Actix Web / Leptos: Axum is the lean Tower/extractor web crate; Actix is macro-heavy performance; Leptos is reactive WASM/SSR — Topcoat is full-stack batteries from the Tokio team. Experimental with explicit breaking-change warning on the roadmap (`topcoat new`, static export, more reactivity still open). Stars grow fast (~134 a week): judge the framework shape, not the velocity. Not Agents/MCP.

## Verdict

MIT Tokio-team full-stack when Rust web needs batteries — not Axum-lean, not Leptos-reactive; treat APIs as early.
