## The Hook

TinaCMS is a headless CMS that keeps content as Markdown, MDX, JSON or YAML files in your Git repo, gives you a GraphQL API to query it, and offers optional visual live-preview editing for non-developers.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (tinacms/tinacms), with package releases this week (2026-10-12). Query content like post.author.firstName through GraphQL, with references between documents. Works for static and server-rendered pages, and Next.js is a first-class target. Self-host the backend or use TinaCloud, which has a free tier. ★~13.8k.

## The Catch

Setting it up is more involved than a plain Markdown folder, and the smoothest editing path runs through TinaCloud. Self-hosting the backend means wiring your own database and auth. Schema changes need a rebuild.

## Verdict

A good fit when editors need a UI but content must stay in Git.
