## The Hook

Technitium DNS Server is a self-hosted DNS server that is both authoritative and recursive, with a web console, network-wide ad and malware blocking, and encrypted upstream forwarding.

## What's Good

GPL-3.0 (TechnitiumSoftware/DnsServer), release v15.6.2 (2026-10-17), developed since 2017. Works out of the box with minimal config. It can forward over DNS-over-TLS, DNS-over-HTTPS or DNS-over-QUIC, keeps DNS logs and stats, caches queries and hosts your own zones. Built on .NET, so it runs on Linux, Windows, macOS and Raspberry Pi. ★~10.1k.

## The Catch

Running your own resolver makes it a single point of failure for your whole network, so run two. It is a .NET app, heavier than a minimal resolver like Unbound. Mostly built by one company and core developer.

## Verdict

A Pi-hole plus real DNS server in one — great for homelabs and small offices.
