## The Hook

SWE-agent is the Princeton/Stanford research OSS agent that helped kick off the autonomous SWE wave — BYOK, you run it.

## What's Good

MIT. Academic lineage behind SWE-bench + early agent scaffolding. Configurable tools/history processors if you are experimenting. Runs with your keys/models. Still useful as a research harness when you want the classic interface.

## The Catch

Vs OpenHands (productized self-host SWE) and Devin (hosted autonomous): SWE-agent is research OSS, not a polished product seat. Maintainers recommend mini-swe-agent as the successor (simpler control flow; active development). For SWE-bench numbers, read upstream.

## Verdict

MIT research SWE harness. Prefer mini-swe-agent going forward per maintainers.
