## The Hook

RxDB is a local-first NoSQL database for JavaScript apps where every query is reactive: subscribe to a query or a single field and the UI updates whenever the data changes, online or offline.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (pubkey/rxdb), release 17.6.0 (2026-10-05), developed since 2016. Runs in browsers, Node.js, Electron, React Native and Capacitor on pluggable storage. Its sync engine replicates with your own backend through three simple HTTP endpoints, with plugins for GraphQL, CouchDB, WebSocket, WebRTC P2P, Supabase, Firestore and NATS. ★~23.4k.

## The Catch

Several of the faster storage adapters and some plugins are paid premium add-ons, so check which ones you need before you commit. Conflict handling in local-first sync is your design problem, not something the library makes disappear. The API surface is large.

## Verdict

The most complete local-first database for JS — read the premium plugin list first.
