## The Hook

rqlite is a lightweight distributed relational database built on SQLite and Raft — think etcd, but with full SQL — shipped as a single binary you can cluster in seconds.

## What's Good

MIT (rqlite/rqlite), release v10.6.1 (2026-10-16), developed since 2014. Full SQL via SQLite, including full-text search and JSON, loadable SQLite extensions such as vector search, atomic multi-statement requests, change data capture, and an HTTP API. A single binary with no external dependencies, plus Docker and Kubernetes options. ★~17.8k.

## The Catch

Writes go through the Raft leader, so write throughput is that of one node; it is for reliability, not write scale-out. You talk to it over its HTTP API rather than a standard SQLite driver, and non-deterministic SQL functions need care. Cluster sizing and quorum are now your job.

## Verdict

The easiest way to make SQLite highly available — great for config and critical small data.
