## The Hook

River is background jobs in the same Postgres you already run when you refuse a Redis queue and a workflow SaaS bill.

## What's Good

MPL-2.0. riverqueue/river. Transactional enqueue with your app writes, retries, cron, unique jobs, and a web UI — no extra broker. Docs at riverqueue.com; source github.com/riverqueue/river. Core is complete for most Go+Postgres apps.

## The Catch

Vs BullMQ (MIT Redis/Node queue), Inngest/Trigger.dev (hosted job platforms), and Temporal (durable *workflow* engine): River is a *Postgres job queue for Go*, not Redis, not a SaaS meter, and not Temporal workflows. River Pro is paid add-ons (workflows, batching, sequences, concurrency limits, DLQ, …) via a private Go module — core stays free MPL-2.0 with no paid code in the OSS tree.

## Verdict

MPL-2.0 Postgres jobs. Free forever core; Pro is optional paid power, not required to enqueue.
