## The Hook

Grafana Pyroscope is a continuous profiling platform: it keeps collecting CPU, memory and I/O profiles from your services so you can see which code paths burn resources, before or during an incident.

## What's Good

AGPL-3.0 (grafana/pyroscope), release v2.4.0 (2026-10-09). Pyroscope 2.0 made the v2 architecture the default, writing profiles straight to object storage with no in-memory ingesters or local disks, and v1 deployments can migrate without data loss. Profiles are explored as flame graphs in Grafana, linked to traces and metrics, with SDKs and an eBPF path via Grafana Alloy. ★~11.7k.

## The Catch

AGPL-3.0, like the rest of Grafana's backends, so modified hosted versions must share source. Profiling has overhead and storage cost, so sample sensibly. You get the most out of it inside the Grafana stack; standalone it is less convenient.

## Verdict

The open continuous profiler to run next to Grafana — cheap to operate since 2.0.
