## The Hook

PostHog is the product OS we actually run. Open-core; Cloud is the free path that matches the bar.

## What's Good

MIT for everything outside ee/. Cloud README states the first 1 million events, 5k recordings, 1M flag requests, 100k exceptions, and 1500 survey responses are free every month, then usage-based. Same product self-hosted if you want the bill to be your cluster. EU Cloud exists. This is analytics plus flags, replay, surveys, and error tracking — not a page-view pixel.

## The Catch

ee/ is a separate proprietary license. posthog-foss strips it if you need a clean MIT tree. Self-hosting is a Postgres + ClickHouse ops job. Cloud is usage-metered after the free allowances; replay is usually the line that bites first.

## Verdict

The honest Mixpanel/Amplitude alternative. MIT core, real free Cloud, ee/ is not MIT.
