## The Hook

Plannotator hooks into your coding agent so that when it writes a plan, finishes a diff, or produces a markdown or HTML artifact, the work opens in a local browser page where you highlight, comment and suggest edits, then send all of it back to the agent as its next instruction.

## What's Good

Dual MIT / Apache-2.0 (backnotprop/plannotator). Free path: one installer script puts the plannotator binary on your machine and wires hooks, skills and slash commands for Claude Code, Codex, Copilot CLI, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Kiro, Droid, Amp and Pi. Plan mode is caught automatically through each harness hook, so you review the plan before any code is written. /plannotator-review covers uncommitted changes, GitHub PRs and GitLab MRs, and it also understands GitButler, Jujutsu and Perforce. No usage telemetry; plans, diffs and annotations stay local. A --minimal install drops just the binary if you only want the CLI. ★~9k.

## The Catch

Every review surface checks GitHub for a newer release when it loads and there is no switch to turn that off; local code review also runs git ls-remote against origin unless you disable it. The full installer edits config for every agent it detects, so use --minimal or read what it touched. Integration depth varies per harness (Droid gets commands only, no plan interception yet). It adds a browser round-trip to every plan, which is great for big changes and friction for one-liners.

## Verdict

The best free way to actually read and mark up an agent plan before it codes — local, multi-harness, open source; mind the installer footprint and the release check.
