## The Hook

PGlite is real Postgres compiled to WebAssembly and wrapped in a TypeScript client, so you can run a Postgres database in the browser, Node.js, Bun or Deno with one npm install and no server.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (electric-sql/pglite), release @electric-sql/pglite 0.5.10 (2026-10-14). About 3 MB gzipped, no Linux VM underneath, runs in memory or persists to the file system (Node/Bun/Deno) or IndexedDB in the browser. Good for local-first apps, per-test throwaway databases in CI and agent sandboxes that need real SQL, and it pairs with Electric for sync. Postgres extensions such as pgvector are available as add-ons. ★~16.2k.

## The Catch

It is single user and single connection, so it is not a replacement for a Postgres server behind a multi-user backend. Performance and memory are bounded by the WASM runtime, and only the extensions the project has ported can be loaded. It is still 0.x, so expect API changes between minor versions.

## Verdict

The easiest way to get real Postgres in tests, the browser or a local-first app — not your production server.
