## The Hook

OpenViking treats agent memory, RAG, and skills as one self-evolving context database that can organize and improve the context an agent retrieves.

## What's Good

AGPL-3.0 (volcengine/OpenViking). It brings memory, retrieval, and skills into one context-oriented data layer rather than making each agent rebuild those stores independently. The self-evolving framing is useful when context should accumulate structure over time, not remain a pile of embeddings and prompt snippets.

## The Catch

AGPL-3.0 is strong copyleft, including the network-copyleft boundary when you modify OpenViking and offer it as a service. Get legal review before exposing a modified deployment over a network. Vs Mem0, Graphiti, and Letta: OpenViking is the context database spanning memory/RAG/skills, not simply a memory API, graph memory layer, or agent runtime.

## Verdict

AGPL-3.0 self-evolving context DB. Broad memory/RAG/skills surface; network copyleft is a deployment decision, not a footnote.
