## The Hook

OpenResearch (alphaXiv) is a local-first Rust workspace that turns Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, or Cursor into parallel research agents — not another prompt playground.

## What's Good

MIT (alphaXiv/OpenResearch). Isolated git worktrees per research direction, git-native experiment tree, evidence attached to runs, `orx` CLI + skills install. Local ownership of projects/logs/artifacts; optional SSH/Slurm/K8s/Ray/managed compute. Product at openresearch.sh.

## The Catch

Vs Spec Kit (spec-driven coding workflow), DSPy (prompt/program optimizers), Promptfoo (eval/red-team): OpenResearch is a research-agent harness and experiment ledger around existing coding agents — not a spec kit, not a prompt compiler, not an eval suite. You still pay (or self-host) the coding agent and any remote compute you dispatch.

## Verdict

MIT research-agent workspace. Coding agents → autoresearch; not Spec Kit/DSPy/Promptfoo.
