## The Hook

Odigos generates distributed traces for applications on Kubernetes and virtual machines without code changes, combining eBPF and OpenTelemetry instrumentation and shipping traces to the backend you choose.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (odigos-io/odigos), release v1.36.5 (2026-10-16). Created by maintainers of OpenTelemetry. It separates data recording from processing to keep runtime overhead low, auto-detects languages, and sends data to many open-source and commercial backends. Good for adding tracing to an existing fleet where touching every service is not realistic. ★~3.7k.

## The Catch

Auto-instrumentation shows you request flow but not your business attributes; you will still add manual spans for that. Some advanced eBPF instrumentation is in the commercial Odigos Enterprise. It is another operator to run in the cluster.

## Verdict

The quickest way to get traces from a fleet you cannot re-instrument.
