## The Hook

Nhost is an open-source backend that gives you PostgreSQL, an instant GraphQL API through Hasura, authentication, file storage and serverless functions, with a CLI for local development.

## What's Good

MIT (nhost/nhost), developed since 2021. Each part is open source (Postgres, Hasura, Nhost Auth, Nhost Storage, Node.js functions), the CLI runs the full stack locally and includes an MCP server for AI coding assistants, and SDKs cover JavaScript, React, Next.js and more. ★~9.4k.

## The Catch

The GraphQL API runs on Hasura, so you inherit Hasura's permission model. Self-hosting the whole stack in production is possible but the hosted Nhost platform (free tier plus paid plans) is the main path. Smaller community than Supabase.

## Verdict

Pick it over Supabase if you want GraphQL-first Postgres.
