## The Hook

Next.js Commerce is Vercel's reference storefront: a server-rendered Next.js App Router shop wired to Shopify's Storefront API, using React Server Components, Server Actions, Suspense and useOptimistic for the cart.

## What's Good

MIT (vercel/commerce), repo pushed 2026-10-06. Vercel actively maintains the Shopify version, and the commerce layer sits in one lib/shopify folder, which is why BigCommerce, Medusa, Saleor, Shopware, Swell, Wix and others publish forks that swap that file out. It is a clean, modern codebase to learn App Router commerce patterns from, and an Orama integration adds typeahead and vector search. ★~14k.

## The Catch

It is a starter, not a product: no accounts, CMS or checkout of its own (checkout is Shopify's), so expect to build the rest. The README's setup assumes the Vercel CLI and Vercel environment variables, though plain .env works. Only the Shopify version is maintained by Vercel; other providers are community forks of varying freshness. Hydrogen is Shopify's own framework if you would rather stay in their stack.

## Verdict

The cleanest Next.js starting point for a headless Shopify store.
