## The Hook

Komodo is a self-hosted tool to build and deploy software across many servers: connect hosts with a small periphery agent, then manage containers, Compose stacks, builds and deployments from one web UI and API.

## What's Good

GPL-3.0 (moghtech/komodo), release v2.3.3 (2026-09-01). Written in Rust. The project promises no limit on connected servers and full API access for automation. There is a public demo (login demo/demo) and docs at komo.do. Good fit when Portainer feels too GUI-first and Kubernetes feels too heavy for a handful of Docker hosts. ★~12.7k.

## The Catch

Its own README warns there are no warranties and to use it at your own risk. You run a core server plus an agent on each host, so it adds moving parts. It is Docker-centric, not a Kubernetes replacement. Smaller community than Portainer.

## Verdict

A capable open alternative to Portainer for a small fleet of Docker servers.
