## The Hook

Hex-Rays IDA MCP is the official MCP server from the makers of IDA, letting Claude Code, Codex, Copilot CLI or Pi drive IDA's disassembler and decompiler, headless or alongside the IDA GUI.

## What's Good

MIT (HexRaysSA/ida-mcp), release v20261008.0.1. uvx ida-hcli mcp install sets up the GUI plugin and offers the agent plugins, and there are marketplace installs for Claude Code, Codex and Copilot CLI. It works headless through idalib, so agents can batch-analyse binaries without a window. The best-known community server, mrexodia/ida-pro-mcp (★~12.9k), now tells its users to switch to this one. ★~1.2k.

## The Catch

The server is free, but it needs IDA 9.4 or newer with idalib, which means a paid Hex-Rays licence (the community server says IDA Free is not supported). It is very young (created Aug 2026, date-stamped releases), and Hex-Rays recommends disabling other IDA MCP servers to avoid confusing the agent. If you don't own IDA, the free route is Ghidra with REA.

## Verdict

The MCP to use if you already pay for IDA — everyone else should start with Ghidra.
