## The Hook

hyperfine is the benchmark CLI when “time ./tool” is not enough and you want warmup, runs, and confidence intervals.

## What's Good

MIT OR Apache-2.0. sharkdp/hyperfine. Runs commands repeatedly with warmup, statistical summary (mean/stddev/min/max), export to Markdown/CSV/JSON, and parameter sweeps (`-P`). Cross-platform. The default answer for comparing two CLIs fairly.

## The Catch

It benchmarks *process wall time*, not flamegraphs or allocator profiles — pair with a profiler when the hot path is inside one long process. Shell overhead and cold caches still skew naive runs; read the warmup flags. Not a load-test / HTTP soak tool.

## Verdict

MIT/Apache-2.0 CLI bench. Free forever; replace anecdotal `time` with numbers you can paste into a PR.
