htmx is hypermedia when you want buttons and forms to fetch HTML fragments without standing up a SPA framework.

0BSD. bigskysoftware/htmx. Small JS library: `hx-get`/`hx-post` and friends turn HTML attributes into AJAX, SSE, and WebSockets — server returns HTML, not JSON-for-React. Docs htmx.org; huge community patterns (hyperscript optional). Source github.com/bigskysoftware/htmx.

## The Catch

Vs React/Next SPA defaults and Hotwire/Livewire cousins: htmx is *HTML-first progressive enhancement*, not a component tree with client routing. Complex client state, offline, and rich widgets still push you toward a heavier front-end — or you accept server round-trips as the model.

## Verdict

0BSD HTML-over-the-wire. Free forever; ship fragments from the server and skip the SPA tax when hypermedia fits.
