## The Hook

HertzBeat is an Apache Software Foundation monitoring system that collects metrics without installing agents on targets, handles alerting and notification, and builds public status pages, all from one self-hosted service.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (apache/hertzbeat), release v1.9.0 (2026-09-13). Monitors are YAML templates over HTTP, JMX, SSH, SNMP, JDBC and Prometheus, so a new target type is configuration, not code, and hundreds ship built in (databases, caches, middleware, OSes, Kubernetes). Logs arrive over OTLP. Alerts support threshold and periodic rules, grouping, silencing and suppression, and go out by email, Slack, Discord, Telegram, webhooks and more. One docker run to start, with optional collector clusters for isolated networks; a built-in MCP server is included. ★~7.4k.

## The Catch

It covers a lot at once, so each part is shallower than a dedicated tool: Prometheus plus Grafana go deeper on metrics, Uptime Kuma is simpler for basic uptime. Change the default admin/hertzbeat login immediately. Java-based and heavier than a single Go binary. The new Next.js frontend is an alpha preview.

## Verdict

A capable all-in-one monitor for small teams that do not want to assemble five tools.
