## The Hook

Herdr is the Rust terminal runtime coding agents live on — workspaces, tiled panes, idle/busy/blocked detection, detach that keeps work alive, and a socket API agents use to herd each other.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (herdrdev/herdr). Single binary in your existing terminal (Ghostty/Alacritty/Kitty/WezTerm/tmux). Detects Claude Code, Codex, Pi, OpenCode, Droid, Amp, and more. Agents spawn panes, prompt peers, and wait on real blocked state via CLI/socket. Multi-machine window, plugins marketplace, brew/curl install. Docs at herdr.dev/docs.

## The Catch

Vs Thurbox / Zellij / ECC: Thurbox is a lighter MIT tmux TUI orchestrator; Zellij is a general multiplexer; ECC is skills/memory/security on host agents — Herdr’s catch is agent-aware runtime + socket API, not another bare multiplexer and not an ecosystem pack. Agent state heuristics vary by harness; after machine restart, layout restores but original processes do not survive.

## Verdict

Apache agent-terminal runtime when you herd many CLIs and need blocked/idle signals — not Thurbox-lite tmux, not Zellij alone.
