## The Hook

GreptimeDB is an open-source observability database that stores metrics, logs and traces in one columnar engine over object storage, so you can correlate signals with SQL instead of three separate databases.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 core (GreptimeTeam/greptimedb), release v1.2.1 (2026-09-16), written in Rust. Ingest via OpenTelemetry, Prometheus Remote Write, Loki Push or Elasticsearch Bulk, then query with SQL or PromQL. All signals share one table model (tags, timestamp, fields), so trace IDs join logs to spans. You can migrate one signal at a time without changing collectors. ★~6.7k.

## The Catch

It is a younger system than Prometheus, Loki or ClickHouse, and the README says the core is Apache-2.0 — some enterprise and cloud features are commercial. Grafana integration works but is less native than Mimir/Loki. Plan object-storage costs and compaction.

## Verdict

An interesting one-engine alternative to the Prometheus + Loki + Tempo trio.
