## The Hook

go-zero is a Go framework for HTTP and RPC microservices: you describe your API in a .api file (or gRPC in .proto), run goctl, and get the handlers, routes, types and config generated so you only write the business logic.

## What's Good

MIT (zeromicro/go-zero), release v1.10.3, listed in the CNCF Landscape. Timeouts, concurrency limits, rate limiting, an adaptive circuit breaker and load shedding are built in and work without configuration. goctl can also generate client code for TypeScript, Dart, Kotlin and other languages from the same .api file. The team ships agent guidance (ai-context, zero-skills) and an optional mcp-zero server so coding agents call goctl instead of hand-writing framework code. ★~33.4k.

## The Catch

It is opinionated and built around code generation: the project layout, the .api syntax and goctl are the way you work, and leaving later means rewriting generated code. Much of the community discussion and older docs are in Chinese. If you only need a router for net/http, chi is the lighter pick.

## Verdict

A strong choice for a team building many Go services the same way — overkill for a single small API.
