## The Hook

GitMCP turns any GitHub repo or GitHub Pages site into a remote MCP docs hub — agents read current docs and code instead of inventing APIs from training cutoffs.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (idosal/git-mcp). Free remote MCP at gitmcp.io/{owner}/{repo} (or owner.gitmcp.io/repo) plus a generic gitmcp.io/docs server. Designed so Cursor/Claude-class clients pull latest README/docs/code from source. PulseMCP top-pick badge; no install tax for the hosted path.

## The Catch

★8444 in about 79 weeks (~107 a week): judge it on the docs-MCP substance, not the star count. Vs github-mcp / context7 / mcp-remote: github-mcp is the official GitHub issues/PRs/code/workflows MCP; Context7 is library-docs retrieval; mcp-remote is a stdio↔OAuth remote shim — GitMCP’s catch is any-repo docs-as-MCP on gitmcp.io, not GitHub platform tools and not a transport proxy. Generic /docs mode must pick the right repo each turn; prefer pinned {owner}/{repo} URLs for security.

## Verdict

Apache remote docs MCP when agents must stop hallucinating niche library APIs — not github-mcp platform tools, not Context7, not mcp-remote.
