## The Hook

GitHub’s official MCP server lets agents read repos, manage issues/PRs, and automate GitHub from any MCP host.

## What's Good

MIT (github/github-mcp-server). Remote hosted endpoint (api.githubcopilot.com/mcp/) plus local server option. First-party tools for code, issues, PRs, Actions — works with Copilot, Claude, Cursor, OpenCode, Antigravity CLI, etc. Beats DIY Octokit wrappers for agent UX.

## The Catch

Vs Composio (multi-app auth fabric): this is GitHub-only, official, and PAT/OAuth scoped to GitHub. Hosted remote path ties to GitHub/Copilot auth; local mode is yours to run. Permissions are the catch — over-scoped tokens are how agents leak. Not a generic toolkit marketplace.

## Verdict

Official MIT GitHub MCP. Use for GitHub; use Composio when you need 1000 apps.
