## The Hook

Gin is the most widely used Go web framework: a fast router, middleware chain, JSON binding and validation for building REST APIs.

## What's Good

MIT (gin-gonic/gin), release v1.12.0 (2026-02-28), commit on 2026-10-10. ★~89k (~139 a week). Built on net/http, so standard handlers and middleware still fit. Useful when you want a familiar, well-documented API framework with a big middleware ecosystem and lots of examples.

## The Catch

Releases are slow (the last one was in February 2026). Since Go 1.22 the standard library's ServeMux handles method matching and path parameters, so a small service may not need a framework at all.

## Verdict

The safe, boring Go API framework; check whether net/http already covers you.
