gawkbot is the open Grok Bot alternative: always-on bots on your machine, on the coding CLI you already pay for, with a human approval gate on every external action.

## What's Good

Install with npx gawkbot; drives Claude Code / Codex / Opencode (and friends) to turn one-sentence jobs into scheduled bots with microapp UIs and approval gates. Local-first on your keys; optional cloud. Strong HN life-of-product signal; the product joke is intentional — you stare at the dashboard while the bot works.

## The Catch

Sustainable Use License — source-available, not OSI open-source; read the license before commercial redistribution. Vs OneCLI / AgentBox / Dexto: gawkbot is personal always-on bots + microapps, not a team credential gateway or Elastic-licensed harness. You still bring a signed-in coding agent CLI and model spend. Per-bot VM computers are still on the roadmap per README.

## Verdict
