## The Hook

Foundry is a Rust toolkit for Ethereum and other EVM smart contracts: forge builds, tests, fuzzes and deploys Solidity, cast talks to contracts and chains from the shell, anvil runs a local node, and chisel is a Solidity REPL.

## What's Good

Dual MIT or Apache-2.0 (foundry-rs/foundry, your choice), release v1.8.5 (2026-10-05). foundryup installs everything, and forge init, forge build and forge test get a project running in a minute. anvil --fork-url forks a live chain locally, so you can test against real contract state. forge lsp brings a bundled Solidity language server for VS Code and other editors. ★~10.7k.

## The Catch

EVM chains only: it does nothing for Solana or other non-EVM chains. Tests are written in Solidity rather than JavaScript or TypeScript, which is a real shift for teams coming from Hardhat and their existing test suites. It is a toolkit, not an audit: passing fuzz tests are not a security review.

## Verdict

The default toolkit for new Solidity projects — budget time to port tests if you're moving off Hardhat.
