## The Hook

Engram is persistent memory for AI coding agents — one agent-agnostic Go binary with SQLite+FTS5, MCP server, HTTP API, CLI, and TUI.

## What's Good

MIT (Gentleman-Programming/engram). Single binary, zero deps story. Local-first memory you can also point at cloud paths when you want sync. MCP + CLI + TUI so Cursor/Claude Code/Codex-class tools share one brain. Site at engram.gentlemanprogramming.com.

## The Catch

Vs Mem0 / Letta / full agent frameworks: Engram is the memory primitive (store + retrieve + surfaces), not an orchestration framework or coding agent. “local or cloud” branding means optional hosted/sync gravity — day-one stays OSS you run. You still decide what gets written and when.

## Verdict

MIT agent memory primitive. MCP/CLI/TUI on SQLite; not a full agent framework.
