## The Hook

direnv loads and unloads .envrc when you cd — project secrets stay out of your global profile.

## What's Good

MIT. Works with bash/zsh/fish/etc, pairs with asdf/mise, stdlib helpers, deny-by-default allow.

## The Catch

Each new .envrc needs `direnv allow`. Not a secrets vault — still files on disk.

## Verdict

MIT directory env. Free forever; allow once per project and stop polluting $PATH.
