## The Hook

Dgraph is a horizontally scalable, distributed graph database with native GraphQL: ACID transactions, consistent replication and linearizable reads, answering in JSON or Protocol Buffers over gRPC and HTTP.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (dgraph-io/dgraph), release v25.5.0 (2026-10-13), developed since 2015 in Go. It controls on-disk layout to cut disk seeks and network calls for graph queries, and supports GraphQL plus its own DQL query language. The project says it is used in production at several Fortune 500 companies. ★~21.8k.

## The Catch

Officially supported on Linux amd64 and arm64 only; Mac and Windows support was dropped in 2021, so use Docker there. The company behind it has changed hands more than once, which matters for a long-term database bet. Its query language and schema model are its own, not Cypher.

## Verdict

A capable GraphQL-native graph store — check the roadmap and run it on Linux.
