## The Hook

Dexie.js is a small wrapper around IndexedDB, the browser's built-in database, that gives you a clean promise-based API, schema versioning and live queries in React, Svelte, Vue and Angular.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (dexie/Dexie.js), release v4.4.6 (2026-09-10), maintained since 2014. It works around bugs in browser IndexedDB implementations, has fast bulk methods, and runs in every browser, Electron, Capacitor and PWAs. `useLiveQuery` re-renders components when stored data changes. The project says it is used by 100,000 sites and apps. ★~14.6k.

## The Catch

Sync, auth and collaboration come from Dexie Cloud, a separate commercial service; the library itself is local only. IndexedDB storage can be evicted by the browser under storage pressure unless you request persistence. Queries are index-based, not SQL.

## Verdict

The default way to use IndexedDB without pain — add your own sync or Dexie Cloud.
