## The Hook

DeerFlow 2.0 is ByteDance’s open SuperAgent harness: sub-agents, memory, sandboxes, extensible skills, and a gateway so long-horizon work is orchestrated rather than one-shot chatted.

## What's Good

MIT (bytedance/deer-flow). Ground-up 2.0 rewrite (v1 deep-research stays on a 1.x branch). Docker Compose path, MCP/IM channels, tracing hooks, and multi-provider model config. Official demos at deerflow.tech; Python 3.12+ / Node 22+ stack.

## The Catch

Vs OpenHands, LangGraph, and Mastra: DeerFlow is a full SuperAgent product harness with sandboxes/memory/gateway, not an open coding agent alone, a graph orchestration library, or a TypeScript workflow framework. BYO model API keys; Docker sizing is resource-heavy (multi-vCPU/GB guidance); star velocity is extreme (~83k).

## Verdict

MIT SuperAgent harness when you want sandboxes + skills + gateway in one OSS tree and will bring models plus Docker headroom.
