## The Hook

Debezium is the open-source change data capture platform: it reads your database's transaction log and emits an event for every committed row-level insert, update and delete, so other services can react.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (debezium/debezium), developed since 2016; the DDL parser's Antlr grammars are MIT. Connectors cover Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, Db2 and more. Only committed changes are emitted, in one event model across databases, and because history lives in durable logs, consumers can stop and resume without missing events. Runs on Kafka Connect, as Debezium Server to other sinks, or embedded. ★~13.2k.

## The Catch

The classic deployment needs Kafka and Kafka Connect, which is heavy infrastructure for a small team; Debezium Server avoids Kafka but adds its own config. Each database needs log access and settings (logical replication, binlog) that DBAs must allow. Schema changes and snapshots take planning.

## Verdict

The default for CDC — worth it once you have more than one service that needs your data changes.
