## The Hook

DBeaver is a free, cross-platform desktop database tool: one app to browse schemas, write SQL, edit data, draw ER diagrams and move data between almost any database with a JDBC or ODBC driver.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (dbeaver/dbeaver), release 26.2.2 (2026-10-04), developed since 2015. More than 100 drivers out of the box, a schema editor, SQL editor with execution plans, data import/export and migration, dashboards, a spatial data viewer, SSH tunnels and proxies, plus built-in AI chat for SQL. OpenJDK 25 ships in every download, so there is nothing else to install. ★~52.1k.

## The Catch

It is a big Java desktop app: startup and memory use are heavier than native clients like TablePlus or a terminal client. Some NoSQL connectors, cloud features and team tooling sit in the paid DBeaver PRO editions, so the free Community edition is relational-first. The UI is dense.

## Verdict

The one free SQL client that connects to everything — heavy, but hard to beat on coverage.
