## The Hook

Context7 MCP injects version-specific library docs into the agent so it stops coding from stale training cutoffs.

## What's Good

MIT MCP server (@upstash/context7-mcp). resolve-library-id + query-docs. Anonymous free with shared limits; free dashboard key raises quota and unlocks private repos. Remote mcp.context7.com or local npx. Beats guessing APIs that moved last quarter.

## The Catch

Vs Repomix/Gitingest (local repo pack/ingest): Context7 is hosted library-doc retrieval, not packing your tree. Backend index/crawl/parse is proprietary Upstash infra — free path is the MCP client, not a self-hostable crawl. You cannot stand up the index yourself.

## Verdict

MIT MCP docs client. Free tier exists; the index is not OSS.
