## The Hook

Cognee turns documents, code, and conversations into a self-hosted knowledge graph agents can search across sessions — company brain, not another chat log.

## What's Good

Apache-2.0 (topoteretes/cognee). Local-first path with small CPU models and no required LLM key; optional local/hosted LLM for generation. Python package + MCP/plugins to connect existing agents. ## The Catch

Vs Mem0 / Hindsight: Mem0 is freemium memory infra SDK/cloud; Hindsight is MIT retain→recall→reflect (+ MCP). Cognee’s catch is KG-first company/agent memory you self-host — not Mem0’s hosted memory API and not Hindsight’s reflect loop alone. Graph + embedding pipelines cost CPU/disk; hosted/cloud extras (if any) are optional beside the OSS bar.

## Verdict

Apache agent memory when you want a local knowledge graph company brain — not Mem0 cloud seats, not Hindsight’s reflect product alone.
